Emerald was an exceptional guy from Nagercoil. He had an infectious smile and a deep love for Ilayaraja’s songs, which he often hummed or sang quite well. He played volleyball and had a style of his own—often leaving a few buttons of his shirt open to show off his muscular chest, with a hairstyle reminiscent of actor Vijayakanth. Friendly and sociable, he was part of the mess committee and didn’t belong to any particular clique, yet he was never a loner. He was intelligent and didn’t see hard work as essential when it came to his studies.
After college, Emerald worked various jobs for a few years before trying his hand at business. Though none of his ventures took off as he had hoped, he took significant risks and faced substantial losses. Had things gone his way, he might have become a competitor to Byju’s. He was also an advocate for social causes and an outspoken critic of Sangh-affiliated parties.
A week before his death, Emerald was admitted to the hospital with chest pain and tragically suffered a fatal heart attack. He leaves behind his wife, daughter, and son.
We find comfort in the memories we have of him and miss him dearly.
